  •  It probably gives them some pleasure (25+ / 0-)

to go after Rice simply because she is in all ways the exact opposite of someone like John Bolton.  Race, gender and age is part of it - they think of Susan Rice as a Congressional staffer and not a UN ambassador, and they treat her as such.  Leaves you and me pretty angry, but I'm not sure the whole country sees it that way.

I think they want a few things out of this.  Not mentioned above, but equally important, they want to demonstrate their ability to block important presidential nominees - consider this a dry run for when the President appoints another Associate Justice.  They are oiling the outrage machine in anticipation for that.  They want to send a signal to the President - who is out on the campaign trail eating their lunch on the tax sunset and fiscal cliff - that they are still relevant.

As mentioned, by getting John  Kerry out of the Senate they have a remote shot at forcing Elizabeth Warren to share the stage with Scott Brown - and they hate Warren even more than they hate Susan Rice.  They don't have the stones to confront Hillary directly - she would pick her teeth with their bones and they know it.  But four years is a long time and they want to try to convince the public that this Administration is a foreign policy disaster.

Whenever The Black Guy wins, they have to do something to put him in his place, to remind him that he cannot make appointments, no, no, no, NONE of his people can work for him!  (Doesn't matter that Rice is one of Hillary's people.)

And then, it's also important to take out a black appointee. The first thing they did in 08 was go after Van Jones...next, it was that poor Shirley Sherrod, an obscure government worker...but she must have been one of Obama's people, I mean, just look at her.

This is about trying to "remind" that inferior dark person, one who has just won a significant mandate, that he should be kissing their KKK derrieres.  And they'll prove it by taking out one of "his people."

If you're part of the White Trash Caucus, this looks easy--not only a black, but also a GIRL. A great target.

I hope Obama's got a strategy to beat this, because this is a signal to him not to try to get his appointments through--and he needs to get busy with those.
