It has been noted. I also think that Obama should concede to Repubs every demand they make from now on, as opposing them would just be a needless distraction from conceding on the next demand.

What's the point of winning if you can't keep your powder dry?

is not looked upon kindly here. Did you stop and think how much it would weaken Obama to cave on this and make it easier for them to hold him hostage on future matters? He's already fired Van Jones and abandoned Dawn Johnsen. Enough.

        •  Fair enough. Want O team to find a way to turn (0+ / 0-)

this in their favor. Maybe they have it thought through and we're just in the messy stage of a trap they're setting.

But like most things, I don't think it's that complicated. I think he wants Rice as SoS and at this point he's kind of boxed himself in on that because if he doesn't nominate her, it's a win for Repubs. But given that she's a lifelong diplomant, something that no one who's held the job has been since Allbright, I think she's more suited for the job than Kerry anyway, whose seat we must not risk.

Frankly, I'm more concerned about Treasury, CIA and Defense.

            •  Was my initial point, O appears to really want (0+ / 0-)

Rice and, even if he doesn't, he can't relent now.

Maybe there's a switcheroo for Sos, CIA, Treasury, Defense, involving Rice, Kerry, Panetta, and even Hillary that would catch Rs off guard.

              •  I'm pretty sure Hillary's off the team (3+ / 0-)

She looks really, really, really tired, and she's earned some time off. And I hope Kerry stays in the senate. I wouldn't be surprised if Obama names Hagel or Lugar to Defense or CIA, or both, although either at state would also be interesting. I can also see him giving Crist something. Heh, what about Christie at FEMA?

                What's your evidence for this?

                O appears to really want
                Rice
Unless I've missed something, we have only Beltway rumors floating a possible Rice nomination. Pfft.

And if Obama doesn't want to pick Rice, he won't. It makes no difference to him (or any other serious person) how much McCain or any other Republican dolt rails against Rice. You don't pick a Secretary of State just because some stupid Republicans try to tell you you can't pick her; you pick the person you think is best for the job.

                •  "Appears" is a wiggle word. Maybe he doesn't. (0+ / 0-)

He has better options politically if he doesn't want her for state.  Then, he's got the silly 3 Rs wasting their time it.
