  •  CEOs and an Employee Rights Act (7+ / 0-)

Here is where I draw the line. CEOs talking austerity, but include TAX CUTS. What the hell is that going to do? I would tell the CEOs that IF they want Austerity then THEY have to GIVE UP the Tax Cuts they are getting currently! In essence, Austerity starts with them. It's like a teenager asking his unemployed parents for a raise in their allowance when they don't have enough money to pay for the roof over his head!

On another note, I have been thinking hard on this item. And I think it's time we pushed for legislation to level the playing field in the business world. I think of it as an "Employment Rights Act".

Right now, we have a piecemeal safety net for employees in our country. We have regulations that are regularly ignored or are neutered by "right to work" states. We have a very minimum wage which is also deeply affected by the states. But what we need is something in line with what the Unions do for Employees, but on a Federal level.

Unions are excellent vehicles for bringing about change for employees and giving them fair working conditions and pay. But why is it that we allow non-union businesses to abuse the rest of the work force? Why not provide a "safety net" level of support to bring these businesses up to livable standards? Why do we have to rely on Unions to do all the heavy lifting? It's time we brought everyone a New Deal instead of letting employers keep their employees in the 19th century. It would shake up the business world, but it would also lift our economy at the same time.
