  •  I wonder... (6+ / 0-)

..if the Obama White House has enough sense to realize once they start to screw with Medicare, all their Obamacare public relations drives are out the window.

If you are going to screw with Medicare, then any convictions you have about seeing Obamacare 100% implemented is nothing but hypocritical bombast.

All the predators will immediately begin to circle Obamacare once Medicare is bargained away.

Surely Obama has enough sense to realize this.

I think they've conceded 2014 already and by 2016 they'll all be gone or halfway out the door and it'll be someone else's problem. Whatever their original reasons for getting into politics, by the time they've reached this level they're just looking out for themselves and operating in a social, professional and ideological bubble and the idea of serving the public good is simply not on their radar screen. They all speak in bland generalities that are disconnected from their real-world effects on real people and they either could care less, or are so disconnected from the real world that they don't even see it.

on Democracy Now's interview with a former GOP strategist (all the way back to Nixon).

KEVIN PHILLIPS: Well, I think the Republican Party today is not very sure of what it is. It is a little bit too interested in upper bracket America. But I think the party system as a whole has drawn away from its moorings. You have a Democratic president supporting the bailouts of banks. The history of the Democratic Party under Jefferson, Jackson and FDR was to crack down on the banks. So, I think you have both parties today don’t stand for very much aside from self interest. And they are mostly involved in hustling money from the 20 or 30 richest zip codes in the country.
