  •  They need to look in a mirror to see the real (42+ / 0-)

culprits for neglect of diplomatic security. Some examples follow.

"Diplomats, National Security, and the House Budget" by Scott Lilly on September 18, 2012 notes:

It also deserves resources. In each of the last two years, Congress has cut President Obama’s request for U.S. Foreign Service and U.S. Agency for International Development staffing levels despite repeated analysis by the Government Accountability Office, the investigative arm of Congress, indicating that our embassies are critically understaffed.
and after a quick discussion of "repeated and deep cuts made to embassy security and construction" made by Congress this:
Nor is it likely to change anytime soon. In the 2011 continuing resolution, Congress, at the insistence of the House of Representatives, slashed the president’s request for embassy security and construction and forced another cut in fiscal year 2012. Altogether Congress has eliminated $296 million from embassy security and construction in the last two years with additional cuts in other State Department security accounts.
No, these three stooges are not in the House, but I wonder what would have happened if they had publicly "filibustered" that resolution because of those cuts. Drummed out of the TP/GOP most likely, but then none of them have shown much spine in a long time.

As noted at the May 1, 2009 "American Foreign Service Association's Memorial Plaque Ceremony" the danger is known and of long standing:

Today’s ceremony marks the inscription of four additional names, bringing the total on the two plaques to 231, representing deaths in over 70 different countries. The individuals whom we honor today were separated by many miles; three died years ago and are being honored now in AFSA’s ongoing effort to recognize those who were previously overlooked. Yet despite the differences in time, location, and circumstance, each of these individuals volunteered to serve their country just as their colleagues do today in dangerous postings around the globe.
So, more names have been added and these three stooges continue to mug for cameras instead of doing anything constructive.

In addition, the real back story is that intelligence was being protected in less than full public disclosures. The two men here often trade on their military experience (Graham is a colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserves) and damn well know better.

    •  Thank you for saying what I've (11+ / 0-)

been thinking. Much better than I could have!

Where were these Senators demanding more money for security? MIA, of course. Out campaigning, probably.

Add to that the fact that the CIA might have good reasons for wanting to keep certain things secret at first. But then we know Republicans like to out CIA agents (Valerie Plame) and put out into the public classified information (Issa), so I guess Susan Rice was supposed to put out classified information, too! Even if she knew it at the time, which isn't altogether clear.

Friends don't let friends vote Republican.

the most necessary and tailored classified briefings would end. That is tough to do with Congresscritters. The TP/GOP is becoming cover blowing central as the Issa affair showed.
