  •  I paid a homeless man $20 to change my tire (1+ / 0-)

Since I have bad elbows, I was having trouble getting my flat tire off, and he offered to help. I said, "If you can get this done to get me to work on time, I'll give you twenty bucks" (that was all the cash I had on me).

As he was struggling with the lug wrench (or whatever that thing is called), several cops and other homeless people asked if he needed help, but he kept saying, "I've got this! It's MY job!"

One cop placed little orange cones around him so that he wouldn't be run over as he was basically lying on the ground.

Finally, the flat was off, the doughnut was on, and I was ready to be on my way. I handed over the money and received a bear hug in return. Then the man said, "If you ever need help again, ask for the Tin Man" and disappeared.

As the cop explained to me, "Tin Man" gathers cans for a living and is widely known downtown.
