    will be too busy climbing into their SUV for the third trip to Starbucks today, then driving home again where they gain access via electric garage-door opener, and toss that empty Starbucks cup into the "recycling" bin with all the others before heading inside and watching 6 hours of TV on their giant plasma TVs...shows that they're always-on DVR recorded while they were out.  And...well, you get the point.

    There are longer-term solutions to our dependence on carbon fuels.  But in order to buy enough time for us to put them in place, I think there's going to have to be some drastic, short-term "enforced conservation" measures.  Think of a Shock Doctrine type of event, but one that is used to advance climate change mitigation rather than unfettered capitalism.
