"The Majority party tells us that it is the job of Senators to stand with the President.  We say that the Senate stands with the people.

    •  I disagree with this. (4.00)
By saying "it is the job of Senators to stand with the President," even if afterwards you say, "But we don't agree with that," you have just re-emphasized the Republican's point for them.

Lakhoff says this in his book, that saying things like "I am not a criminal" don't help, because all people hear is the word "criminal."  I mean, think of all the people who won't bother to read past the first sentance ....  PLUS the fact that the "standing with the President" meme is already so ingrained in our consciousness (must support the Commander in Chief and all) that it has built in resonance.

"The Senate stands with the people" is fine. But ditch that first phrase! (IMHO of course.)  And actually I think "abuse of power" is better.  It fits in with the whole Delay thing and the Teri Schivo (sorry I can't remember how to spell that) thing and crazy Santorum.  And it is something we can use in 2006.

Take the GCCC Challenge: $20.06 for 2006 and tell the world that you support Christine Cegelis for Congress!

"The Majority party tells us that it is the job of Senators to bow to the President.  We say that the Senate must stand with the people."

      •  For some reason (none)
when I saw "bow" I thought it said "blow".  So, I thought of this:

If someone's going to blow the president it shouldn't be an entire branch of government.

Of course, it probably doesn't help our cause nor is it suitable for a main stream audience...
