I had a date with a Jewish woman last night who praised Marissa Mayor and said it was very empowering to see a pregnant woman still take charge at being a CEO.  How is that not empowerment to women?

      •  I must admit (0+ / 0-)

that the treatment Marissa Mayer has received in the mainstream press -- even and especially in supposedly liberal, feminist-leaning publications -- is shameful, and illustrates all too well the double standard that still exists in the way we think of powerful, successful women versus powerful, successful men (whom, you may notice, NEVER have to put up with this kind of flak, no matter what decisions or tradeoffs they make regarding their family lives).

I don't get this need by certain women to drag other women down when they are actually trying to destigmatize totally normal behaviors – like having a child while holding a (powerful) job.

Fuller basically mobilizes a class war argument to advance a gender war stereotype – basically saying that, no, most women cannot pull a job and motherhood off without slouching toward misery – they're tired and exhausted.

Whatever morsel of truth she's trying to get at, it is used to no positive effect.

    •  What a tetchy, pointless article. (0+ / 0-)

So she was optimistic and positive about her first go at motherhood – she was making no overarching statements about motherhood generally – just saying her first go at it has gone more smoothly than she anticipated.

Total strawman article juiced on needless outrage. There are far more deserving people to complain about than a CEO celebrating motherhood, and who is trying to bring more benefits and a more open culture to her employees.
