    •  That would set a horrible precedent. (6+ / 0-)

Claiming you saw, from one vehicle into another, at night, etc. etc. the mere flash of something that looked like it might be a weapon, or a movement to grab a weapon, is license to kill? That's a frightening thought.

      •  I thought since reading about SYG laws there (0+ / 0-)

are plenty of precedents. Seems to my SYG laws are a license to kill, and not just in Florida. Wasn't there a case in Wisconsin where some kids out to late got shot?

        Some northern state, anyway.

shooting unarmed suspects all the time.

How many times have you heard a story that begins "he ran so we chased", and ends "he had something black in his hand, it looked like a gun, it was only after we moved the body that we discovered it was his cel phone."

And when I say "all the time", I mean, on the rare occasion that this occurs relative to the number of encounters that officers have with dangerous people.

Thing is, you usually can identify when it's a police officer that you're dealing with, as opposed to some random stranger who's also armed and prepared to use deadly force.

The precedent is already set, I'm afraid.
