  •  Intellectual work is much more tiring than (18+ / 0-)

physical, but the brain seems to lack the capacity to signal with an ache that it has been strained to the breaking point. Make sure you eat right and get plenty of sleep. You're giving your brain a lot to process each night.
There is a reason why brainy people get that "lean and hungry" look. :)

The difference between a liberal and a con is that the liberal delights in another's achievement. The con is made envious.

I have noted that I am not handling  nutrition needs well at school which is one reason I am running down.  I am going non-stop from about 7:50 until 12:05.  I need to grab a snack partway through.

    •  30% of the calories one ingests (0+ / 0-)

are used by the brain. True fact! (not one of those Fox News "facts," lol). So if you are are really using the brainbox, you need to adjust caloric intake accordingly.

Teacherken, I'd try some nuts (almonds or walnuts if you aren't allergic)--they have a good balance of (good) fats, carbs and protein, and will stick with you. You also only need about an ounce so you can eat them fast. I bring some when I teach my graduate class and it's 3 hours long, it helps a lot.

Please keep updating us and let us know if we can help your kids in any way. I used to live in DC and I loved it.
