  •  The VA is quite concious of their role as model (16+ / 0-)

for what a health care system can be. Last month I had the opportunity to meet Tracy Gaudet, M.D., the VA's Director of the Office of Patient Centered Care & Cultural Transformation.

Consider that job title. Patient Centered Care, which, as she explained during a talk she  gave, means that the VA is implementing a new model where the patient is responsible for their own well being and the VA's medical staff are charged with assisting each individual with their expertise. The doctors aren't in charge, the patient is. What a concept!

Cultural transformation. Right up to the top (Dr. Gaudet works directly for the Under-Secretary) the VA is aware they need to change the culture of how they deliver health care, and are committed to doing so.

Another score for the Obama/Shinseki regime. Dr. Gaudet was hired into the VA from the Duke Center for Ingrative Medicine, where she was the Director, about a year and half ago specifically to make the VA the model of whole-person health care delivery for the twenty first century.
