apologies is how one goes about gradually turning the state
back to its blue origins.  I wish we had some leadership in my red state, but it looks pretty bleak.

    •  Yes, it is exactly the right way. (5+ / 0-)

It's frustrating here.  I live in Blue Mo (St. Louis area) where the City and County together (they are separate) voted about 60% for Obama.  I have a Dem congressman (Lacy Clay), Dem state rep and Dem state senator.

But get outside St. Louis, KC, or Columbia, and it is very red in Mo.

One of the best things Dkos does for people trapped in red states is allow them to help in winnable races through contributions or otherwise.  Before Dkos, I don't think I ever donated in races outside Missouri.

I'm glad Barack Obama is our President.

aware of how we can support other candidates in the nation when we have no one on the state level that we can possibily make a difference in helping to win.  We did work for our local state representative and the state superintendent of education since there was possibility in those elections, and for state questions, all of which lost.  It's important though to be able to donate to others that we admire such as Warren and Grayson and we feel that we've made a difference.  We've only turned totally red since W's appointment though we've been moving in that direction for a while.  There's just absolutely no one in the Democratic field now to give much hope.  It's mainly the fundamentalists here that have taken control of the state and that's a very difficult battle.

The reason the Repubs hated McCaskill was her comment to the Repubs complaining about the stimulus and then taking it. She told the Repubs in Mo to shut up or give the money back. Well, they decided to take and shut up but never liked her from then on. Repubs can be controlled. Nixon is the moderating force. They act like little children.  The taker areas (rural) are so envious of the maker areas (metro).  Unfortunately, the takers are risking the makers that provide them the services they demand and are furious when eliminated or curtailed through budget cuts offered by the Repubs. Now the legislature wants to match the KS business tax elimination. It is downward slope. The problem with government today is the interference by the billionaires. Russ in MO and Dave and Chuck in KS.
