  •  Never underestimate the Cooch to pull one off. (0+ / 0-)

This critter got his first taste of public elected office in an off election with a couple of obscure local bond items if I recall to what was my old state senate district that I long ago described:

This creature won a very obscure special election August 6, 2002 in Fairfax County where he was opposed even by his Republican predecessor. Turnout was 16.6% and his virulent anti-abortion church supporters turned out in force while most citizens went about daily business. There, again, we have the evil associated with "too busy" or "too enthused" to turn out for an election. He got in and got incumbent advantage. Now he has "bloomed" into a statewide problem with another too busy to care electorate to blame.
The original link with full county data is now less accessible though still available at Fairfax County's Election Returns page by selecting "Special Election August 6, 2002" in the menu. There it shows 111,135 registered voters in the 37th district with only 18,405 showing up. I remember very bored poll workers perking up when we walked in. As we left a church van was headed in for Cuccinelli excitement.

They guy, despite offending even his GOP colleagues of the day by hijacking every possible meeting for his anti-abortion crusade, managed to get reelected in what was an increasingly purple area; then he got out to statewide AG when it was probably going to be impossible to win. Perfect timing of his trajectory for higher office.

Never underestimate the ability of Ken Cuccinelli to pull one off and the time to start organizing to make sure there is no fade of those in parts of the state that turned it for Obama in 2014 as it did in 2010.

The only foes that threaten America are the enemies at home, and those are ignorance, superstition, and incompetence. [Elbert Hubbard]
