  •  Sure Hama is irrelevent except that the people (6+ / 0-)

    of Gaza elected them, and now with the latest rocket fire, and the deaths of many dozens of Gazans, and 5 years of blockade, HAMAS has scored a diplomatic recognition victory.

    We may abhor Hamas violence and refusal to play by international rules, but they have won perhaps their biggest victories because we are rewarding violence over the relative peace that Abbas has offered in the west bank.

    If Abbas had lost the UN bid today, Hamas would have been made stronger.

        It means that Abbas has a win to balance (or trump) what Hamas gained in the negotiated cease fire.

        If Hamas and the Palestinian Authority can hold elections and form a coalition government, it turns the heat up a notch, on Isreal re the continuing illegal settlements.

        Not an expert on I/P issues, but that's how it looks to me.
