    If I recall correctly, that would have completely eliminated the filibuster for judicial nominees.

    Reid's proposal still maintains the filibuster to close debate, so the minority can still block bills or nominations. They just can't tie up the body for weeks on end with filibusters of each stage of a bill or nomination.

      filibuster for judicial nominations caused the Democrats to back off on ever filibustering judicial nominations.  So the Republicans got what they wanted anyway.  I think that's plenty of evidence that there's no point playing nice in the hope that Republicans will play nice in the future.
