    Because I think we've mentioned my husband was married before. But it's not really something mentioned much. It was years ago, brief marriage, no big deal.

    I knew. We don't hide it, but I don't know that it registers with them. It just isn't talked about because it isn't part of our lives. If he had kids with previous wife, that would be entirely different, but he didn't. She just sort of drifted off. I think I have more fond memories of boyfriend of the same era, who I really spent as much time with.

    And then I hear stuff like my mom trying to find out about her stepfather's first wife. And they thought they had all that, but no, that was his second wife. He eloped before heading off to WWII, and no one even remembers this woman's name. But they need her information to guarantee my grandmother's SS information. And if my kids asked me my husband's first wife's name, I could give them a first name. No idea what her maiden name was.

    I guess I should ask, as I think about it. Given the above. I'd hate to find out I don't get SS benefits because I don't know how to verify she's not eligible.
