  •  Reagan's second term (19+ / 0-)

    was mired in Alzheimer's...truthfully.

Clinton's second term was destroyed by the exuberance that we were in an upward spiral propelled by technology and a blossoming world. So the old regulations seemed "quaint" and let the dollars flow!

Bush's second term was limited by the same thing as his first term...HIM!

that Clinton AND America became blinded by the prosperity of the later go go nineties.  And I think you state it well when you say the "old regulations seemed quaint."  Basically, in so many ways, we simply repeated the mistakes of the twenties.

But Clinton was a great triangulator in those days, still is, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. He also bears responsibility for giving the right wing the chance to savage his second term and distract the country from everything that was truly important. For as brilliant as Clinton is in so many ways, he does not, imo, hold a candle to Obama in the department of self discipline and being circumspect in his behavior.

On Bush, LOL, yeah.  The guy was "term limited" by himself.  Oh Lord, how long will it take to do undo the damage he did?
