Obama was far from naive, far from it.  He knew two things going in - angry black men don't make it in this society and it takes more than 4 years to bring about real change.  His lack of in your face anger, or toughness, so many have called for is not what got him to where he was nor what was going to carry him forward into the 2nd term.  But now that he's there, suddenly we see a man who no longer needs to modulate his tone away from what the base has been hungering for.  As is evident in the fiscal cliff negotiations and countless other actions, the man is always 2, 3, 4 steps ahead of others in his thinking. We need to remind ourselves daily that the one common thread of every Presidential candidate in our lifetime was they were going to reform Health Care and only one man actually did it, and did it in the beginning of his first term.  Somehow people complained that what was a remarkable achievement was not good enough.  Come next year, when the full plan starts to kick in, when the States like California and Colorado introduce innovation into their Health Care Exchanges and states like Mississippi and Oklahoma start laying the groundwork for a National Health Care system without even realizing it, people will once again come to realize he was 2, 3, 4 steps ahead of the rest of us...

and none of us escape it as we move through life.  For instance, I once owned a store.  It had been a dream of mine, and I did it, got it up and lived the dream.  But I found the dream more humbling than I thought it would be, found I had a lot more to learn than I thought, and it was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be.  I would say I was naive about the undertaking before I knew better.

To me I think, who wouldn't be surprised and set back a bit on one's heels by the behavior of the republicans since Barack Obama put his hand on the bible?  Who knew just HOW naughty they could be?

And I totally agree with you regarding the Affordable Health Care act and that it will indeed become the open door to single payer.
