One of things "forgotten" here is the repeal of DADT. I too think Obama got A LOT for his decision to wait two more years before axing the Bush Tax cuts.  And I do believe they will be axed in the the weeks to come, one way or the other.

Where I felt Obama stumbled, which is allowed BTW, was during the debt ceiling crisis.  I think there's a corollary to be made between those negotiations and his hard to fathom performance in the first debate...but that's a whole other diary.

debt ceiling debate, IMO, he was dealing with a bunch of suicide bombers who really did have explosives attached to themselves.  He couldn't gamble with the world's financial system in case the republicans didn't raise the debt ceiling.

the United States credit rating was still degraded. I simply feel that the GOP was further emboldened by Obama's response to them in the debt ceiling talks.  I think he, without meaning to, lent credence to their argument, made it more believable than it deserved.

Remember, raising the debt ceiling has NEVER been an issue or a crisis in the history of this country, and it has been raised many times.  The GOP used this heretofore rather benign exercise of government to torpedo Obama, their goal from the day he put his hand on the Bible.  And they are trying to do the same thing with Bengazi, despite the fact that there was no less than 12 attacks on US embassies under George Bush, not to mention 9/11, with never such a temper tantrum from the Democrats.

And I think there's a reason that most see this as the low point of Obama's first term.  But, as was the whole point of my diary, I think the president is very capable of assessing his decisions, and course correcting.  That's the kind of guy I want in office, and I'm thrilled to have him in office for another 4 years.

they were very clear that they did it because of legislative dysfunction.  If you have a mentally disturbed relative, is it fair to blame you for what your relative does?

If you were a duplicate bridge player you might have a keener appreciation for getting the most out of a bad hand.  :)
