officially-diagnosed diabetic pootie. Now that I've gotten over the shock, I've worked out a plan for treating her, using prescription diet and holistic treatments. I started her today on the Rx diet dry food. She went right for it - in fact, I couldn't get the bag open soon enough - and munched it down and seems to really like it. I have to admit, it smelled pretty good to me, too.

I will wait til lunchtime or so to start her on the Rx canned food. Don't want to through too much at her at any one time. As for the holistic treatments, I'm a Jin Shin Jyutsu practitioner and I've been using this energy work on her for some time. With the diagnosis I was able to refine my list of flows to more specifically address her needs. I have a little chart written out for her that I keep on my kitchen table, so after she gets brushed I can put her on my lap and give her JSJ. Here she is relaxing after her morning brush & JSJ session:

Then, yesterday when I posted about this in the pootie diary, a nice Kossack wrote to tell me about an herbal formula that was giving her kitty. It's by a company called Pet Wellbeing, so I looked up their website and I am VERY impressed with them. I know a thing or two about herbs, and the way they described the herbs & why they choose them for the specific formula was spot-on. I'm going to order the Blood Sugar formula for LuvLee and use that instead of insulin shots. It just feels right; I could never quite visualize insulin injections happening with this cat! And while the herbal drops are pricey they're much more affordable than $140 per vial of insulin.

Meanwhile ... Noddy I feel your pain about the craft fair. I used to really look forward to them. Last year I did one every weekend from Thanksgiving to Christmas. This year I have just no enthusiasm for it at all. I could possibly get into one in mid-December if I called this place ... and I just can't make the call.

That said, you'll be fine. Your job basically is to be there,  make sure no one walks off with any of the merchandise, and make change when you have a sale. Itzl will do the selling for you!

available from (BUM, BUM BUM), Walmart for a reasonable price if you find later that you need to get it. I got the impression that cat and human insulin is the same.

Somebody in the peeps diaries might already know about the best way to get pooties their insulin.

my post in today's pootie diary.

I've now got LuvLee started on both the dry & the gushie Rx food. So far she's eating it quite readily. I've also ordered her herbal drops. I want to give that a good try before resorting to insulin. The vet was okay with us using diet alone and keeping a watch on LuvLee's condition, but I will more with the vet in the coming week.

insulin, you won't be able to go back.  Of course she likes the food, it must have a lot more meat/protein than regular food, much more to LuvLee's kitty-taste!

for the last 6 months or so, and she loved that. The vet said it was good I did that because it is high-protein and it stabilized her & kept the diabetes from getting worse. But she needs even more protein, so we're on the Rx. She has officially licked her first dish of it clean. Only drawback is, her latest poop is really smelly :p

I hope that situation goes away after she adjusts to the new food! ;)
