  •  Given today's issues... (10+ / 0-)

I'll queue up in a few days; otherwise I'll think it's set when it's not.

      •  I'll try to work one up this week sometime (4+ / 0-)

Although after re-reading the upcoming, I may do a few edits - guess I was a bit scatter-brained at the time.

Midget good, but has lately taken to stomping around...which on a hardwood floor invokes advil.

Software or hardware issues on the laptop? I know some great freeware to get rid of spyware and malware if you need it.

        •  Thanks, but that's what I do (4+ / 0-)

This is a failing HDD, seems to have a scrambled MBR, but NTFS stores a complete backup, so if I can get it to read the sectors at all I should be able to bring it back. That, or the old freezer trick - but it's reading the sys-restore partition just fine, so I'm looking closely at the MBR; hard to tell since I really can't ID any actual files yet, but I have half a dozen POST testers, PS tester, even homemade boot controller for testing bare boards, and tons of software to deal with it, running mini-XP from a Falcon Four disk I made, and have a complete set of UBCD disks and all that.

Also walking a buddy thru HijackThis and MBAM on his desktop this weekend - no infections I can see, but WAY too many toolbars and updaters, slowed it down to a crawl - when will ppl stop installing everything in sight w/o looking for the traps in the agreements? Bane of my geekery!

Catch up with ya later by email, bud. Hah! Pun intended! Go shovel a walk now, will ya - and yes, we got some lake-effect but it isn't staying on the ground.
