well, she never responded to the message I left.  I'm pretty certain she doesn't fly out until wednesday or thursday, but I told her that I can't really have her stop by during the week since I work and get home around 5:30... then have to do my own evening chores and stuff.  So the weekends are the only time I said she can visit.

There is still today, but not sure what will happen.

anywho, there is another person involved in all of this, and she is in contact with the breeder.  The breeder said if necessary she will take the kitten back, but will  not refund any money at this point.  Plus (and this was not any disparagement on me) she has a closed cattery, and the kitten having been released out to the world, would then have to be isolated, retested, in quarantine, before being taken back into the fold of the household.

that girl is spoiled.  that is for certain!!!

I am hoping she just gets everything resolved by next year (at least with the boyfriend/payment part. That is step one.)  But I think she is hoping that things will be better in their relationship and he will stop asking for his money back.  In other words, no, she is not really working to resolve on any issues, but just biding her time hoping they will just miraculously resolve on their own!!

That is one girl who never should have had the care of any living being.  Period.  She needs to grow the heck up!

I get where the breeder is coming from.  She needs to make darn good and sure no one else brings any diseases back into the house, even if the cat originated with her.  Still, "isolation" implies being alone, and Mei Ling doesn't sound like she'd deal with being isolated all that well.

[Iceland has a similar policy with their Icelandic horses.  They have a type of fjord horse that has been bred for many centuries without any other horses coming in to their country.  Iceland won't let anyone bring any horses of any kind into Iceland because they know their own native breed of horses do not have the immunity of horses not raised there, so any strange disease could spread throughout the island and kill the entire population of horses.  Once exported to another country, an Icelandic horse can never go back to the island nation.  I get it.  They're quite a beautiful animal in their own right because they have a couple of extra gaits not found in other horse breeds.]

is why she said originally she would either refund partially (understanding the situation of Sandy) or board the kitten until the situation of housing was resolved.  But she was asking a fee for boarding - and in that sense I can understand her point, too, because she is in a business after all!!

With any living being comes that responsibility!!  If I were to go away on a vacay, I would want to compensate even a friend who may be watching over my pootie pack!!  I would never expect they would just do for free and would offer something at first at least!

gah - so essentially the girl never got back to her after she called the breeder to tell her that she had to leave her apartment and was looking for other permanent housing.  And in the meantime, the other three kittens she had for sale also wound up going to buyers who were severely affected by the storm (1 totally lost her house, the other two were in pretty dire straits with damages).  They had reached out to her as soon as possible, she wound up refunding deposits on two because she felt very bad for them, and the third apparently told her that she knew she lost the deposit, but she also knew she just couldn't take a kitten at this point.

By the time the girl got back to her (the same week I wound up getting pulled into this mess... so this is like nearly 4 weeks later and time to pick up the kitten), the breeder said she was sorry, but she couldn't keep her offer of some money back anymore.  The girl just waited too long!

So really, I can't blame the breeder.  So the breeder essentially said she could board at a fee, relinquish kitten back (without refund - they had already signed a contract) or take the kitten.
