    times in the late 20's & he was lucky to get a sales job in 1930 where his car was a Model A with no heater, no wind-shield wipers, and a crank starter that he drove all over North Jersey & back & forth to NYC in the middle of the winter.  He used to say that he used more antifreeze (booze) than gasoline during the winter, stopping at every other bar along the way to get warm by a variety of methods, until his sales manager went with him on a long sales trip, said, "This is ridiculous," & got him a car with a heater.

    No wonder he lived to within a month of his 99th birthday: He was, as he used to say, freeze-dried, pickled, & smoked. (Everyday until well into his 70's, he smoked a couple of packs, plus a few big stogies.)
