  •  I think Obama has been acting like (9+ / 0-)

A new step parent for the last 4 yrs.

You know. You don't want to assume the kid is playing you, even though that's what it looks like. You want them to like you. You don't want to be more harsh than their biological parent, even if you think that might be the best course to take.

But after a few years, when you learn what the kid does and how they think, and see how they play you off your spouse to get what they want, you stop playing games. You get tougher. You make them walk the dog they wanted so bad, and clean up after it, and feed it, even when they don't want too.

You don't take their word for everything. You stop being a pushover.

no longer has to be concerned about another election has freed him up to be more unwaivering in his positions.

Remember, in poll after poll, the American people have said they wanted their elected officials in Washington to work together and compromise (even though they had no freakin' idea what it was they wanted "compromised").  Those same polls showed that most Americans blamed the republicans for not compromising and not getting things done, which was one of many factors that worked in Obama's favor in this last election.

I think we're going to see more of the real Obama this term, and I don't think the repubs are gonna like it.
