  •  But now ALICE is out there! (6+ / 0-)

I'd never heard of ALICE before, and I'm thrilled!

Now, in the case of our legislature here in NC, it is virtually 100% teabagger on the Republican side (which holds large majorities in both chambers), and we've just been saddled with potentially the worst governor in state history with the purchasing of Pat McCrory's governorship by Americans For Prosperity and Art Pope, our own state's "Koch Brother".

Nearly every substantive bill last legislative session was written by ALEC; most survived veto by our former decent governor and the decline in the quality of life for citizens of our state has already manifested itself. Now, with a gubernatorial rubber stamp instead of a veto stamp, ALEC will reign supreme here, and voter suppression, education gutting, more tax cuts at the top, elimination of environmental regulation, and attacks on women such as the "transvaginal wand" mandate will become the law of the land in our state.

So, no, ALICE will not be welcome in Raleigh.

But we will now have ALICE to show the public in a side-by-side comparison. We must resume campaigns for state legislative office at the individual-voter level, and having concrete legislative language readily accessible to counteract the garbage that is actually being passed in this state will, I think, go a long way toward reclaiming our state government for The People.

Going into 2013, our state will be operating as the legislative equivalent of Wisconsin. We need to give voters some perspective on how bad it all is, and what a sane alternative looks like.

    Thank you, ALICE!!!
