We have considered returning because we miss our family, and to be honest, the more lively and diverse population in Fort Worth as opposed to rural England. Last time we went back though, the cops were passing us in sixes and sevens, people we knew had either had insane fines levied by local police or had been out and out abused by them. These are run of the mill ordinary middle class people, and they took it for granted. One hates to imagine what happens in minority communities. We were spooked.

      about terrorism to a conservative.

Pointing out that you are more likely to be struck by lightening than be a victim of a terrorist attack makes no difference in their beliefs.
They will still think that the War On some Terror makes sense but a War On Lightening doesn't.

Why? Because the television tells them that they must be afriad.

and the support for the WOT stems from people's need to justify the horrendous acts we've already done.  It is always easier and less painful to perpetuate a lie than to face the fact that we are wrong, particularly when being wrong has caused the deaths, torture and incarceration of thousands of innocent people.  It is a truly spectacular level of hypocrisy and cowardice.
