  •  It's not a mystery and never has been (14+ / 0-)

The GOP decided to try the old school 30 second ad approach and solicited endless piles of cash to do it. We were able to keep pace mostly on the ad front since we spent our advertising dollars so much more intelligently. The rest of our money went to fuel the high tech back-end driving voter outreach models.

Telling them how it was done doesn't mean they can successfully replicated it. They have to find smart people that know how to do that stuff to build the systems for them. Since they tend to be the party of stupid, that's going to make it hard for them to find said smart people.

was a triumph of evidence versus ideology.

The direct mail and phone scripts that characterized OFA's voter outreach campaign relied on proven methods developed in behavioral science--two things that are anathem to today's Republicans: evidence and science.

By engaging academics in the behavioral sciences, OFA went outside the traditional Democratic bubble to guide their campaign.

Obama/Biden outspent Romney/Ryan 2-to-1 on polling to get an accurate evidence-based snapshot about voters. Romney/Ryan relied on internal polling that reinforced their ideologically-driven worldview: that the President wasn't popular with his base and they wouldn't show up like they did in 2008.

It's deadly that no one in the Romney/Ryan camp seemed to question polling that didn't question their assumptions.

The choice of our lifetime: Mitt Romney, It Takes A Pillage or President Barack Obama, Forward Together.

leadership - that's what always lets them get in the way of real progress.

In the '80s they worked to develop a scripting process that all their minions could learn and a process for entering politics thru local elections so they could gain political ground.

In the '90s they spent money to find the most appealing words to use to push their agenda while masking it. That's what got them so close in 2000 that they could get Shrub in office.

Money does buy talent, and cunning leaders in the GOP will try to find ways to advance their agenda - they are experts at pushing lies and making scripts for their followers to memorize. FOX network programs actively reinforce the lies and scripts, so the followers keep up the pressure on the rest of us.

If they were actually snakes in the grass, we could dispose of them. Since they're not, we have to live with them until they leave the inhospitable environment  we make around them, or they die out. Our boots on the ground should keep them from nesting and increasing.

Something that doesn't make good sense, makes bad sense. That means someone is being deliberately hurtful & selfish. Look for motives behind actions & words.
