  •  LEDs have gone way down in price, (14+ / 0-)

and way up in options. We now have one over our kitchen counter (a light we leave on a lot) and one in my reading lamp. Nice, warm, dimmable.

And our local utility rebates $10/LED bulb, which makes them downright obvious!

    •  We also put an LED over the kitchen sink (3+ / 0-)

It is a recessed canister unit from Lowe's, wasn't horribly expensive. It's dimmable--on high you could perform surgery under there, on low it's a cozy glow. I can't find the box right now and I don't remember the wattage, but it's tiny. Compared to the overhead florescent tubes we were typically using before, 40 W x 4 = 160 Watts! Yikes!

I've been using CFL's for many, many years. The first ones I had were maybe 25 years ago. Most of the lights in the house are CFL's. Now I am very gradually replacing those with LED's as I get around to it. There are many, many options already and these are just taking off.

I love it that Obama's channeling Harry Truman: "I don't give 'em hell; I just tell the truth and they think it's hell!"
