is the company, out of Santa Fe.

The Navy funds Polywell research, they like it because it could replace Fission nukes in subs and Carriers. We would like it because it can make enough electricity to give us a chance of saving the human race, so we can actually become a space faring race. Replacing fission nukes, coal plant, natural gas plants. And generating enough electricity to run C02 scrubbing plants. It is theoretically possible to return to 350 ppm Co2.

Currently a Polywell fusion reactor is about the size of a houshold oven. Its called WB-8,, or whiffle ball-8, the eighth reactor in a series. A net power reactor (1000mw) might be 15 ft across, in a  35 ft square room.

In a year or 2 WB-8 might be ready to use the best fusion fuel, the proton-Boron11 or P-B11. P-B11 fusion release alphas, which can be directly converted to DC electricity. No boiling water/steam/turbine like in fission nukes.

Only low levels of radioactivity and no waste. Shut the reactor down and walk into it a month later.

Best case scenario we're 5 years from a working prototype, if it works....

Amongst Fusion aficionados the P-B11 fuel is the most desirable fuel, 2 other companies are researching to see if they can make it work.

And the cool thing, if youre a Star Tek Fan, is Polywell was invented by DR Robert Bussard. This part of the original TV show Enterprise is called the Bussard Collector:

Bussard wrote a paper decades ago about using interstellar hydrogen to fuel a spaceship (Bussards Ram Scoop). Gene Rodenberry had heard about Bussards Ramscoop idea and incorporated it into his sci fi.

But dont count on Polywell, we need to build out renewables like crazy.
