    It's wise to answer any that apply like Black or Ashkenazi Jew (if your're either) because there are medical conditions that disproportionately affect people with these backgrounds. Sickle cell is relatively rare outside those of African heritage and Tay-Sachs is much much more prominent in Ashkenazi Jewish people.

    If your doctor has that info on her sheet, she'll add it to the differential diagnoses more readily when trying to figure out what's wrong with you.
