  •  Yep. The people who think you can live (12+ / 0-)

on food stamps have never had to live on food stamps.

I have, many years ago. It was only me at the time, and it still was difficult. I still watch my food budget, but I don't have to worry about it if I want an expensive cheese for a treat or a fresh turkey instead of a frozen one. At least for now....

    •  I'm 62 and I've been on food stamps for years (6+ / 0-)

Also I recently got an update saying my benefits were being cut by $10 a month starting in January which will put me at $128.00 a month. I'm not sure where but I read somewhere it was because my SSI was expected to increase by $12.00 in January and if I remember correctly this is what happened last year.

How do I do it? I go to the Food Bank and that's what I'm doing in about 30 minutes from now. I have to get at least 2 visits to the Food Bank a month to make my food credits last and I do not eat expensive stuff, including meat as I've been a vegetarian for almost 40 years but I gotta say I don't know how some people make it.

I can donate to our local food bank. I know it's essential for a lot of people.

        •  another thing to do with stamps and Food banks (0+ / 0-)

is that if you will need to go to the food bank a couple of times a month like I do to make up for the lack of food credits you need to go at the beginning of the month.

Save spending those credits and avoid waiting in block long lines by going to the food bank when everyone has just got their food credits. Yesterday there were less than 20 people in line when I got there and some of the things I picked up are things on which my food stamps won't be spent, but I will be using for them later in the month when the lines are a block long and slow moving.
