If the GOP fails to negotiate a resolution to all of the issues prior to going over the 12/31/2012 midnight fiscal cliff, potentially any post - January 1 "fix" to the various issues will need either Obama's support or a 2/3 super-majority to override his veto.  Obama could have even more leverage after Jan. 1 (not including the Dems' larger majority in the US Senate and larger minority in the US House) because Obama can threaten to veto any deal that fails to meet his approval.

The fiscal cliff is our friend - and GOP House Speaker Boehner and GOP Senate Maj Leader McConnell are playing into the hands of Obama, possibly because Boehner is afraid he will be dumped as Speaker and McConnell is afraid of his shadow (and of being primaried in 2014 in Kentucky).

    More popcorn, please.

    •  I hugely doubt Obama would (0+ / 0-)

veto (or even have to veto) a bill that passes this Senate, whatever its merits. Dems do control it, after all, and they have already passed the bill that contains the bulk of the Dem position . . .
