    ...the "Grocery Shrink Ray" phenomenon, which was well documented for a long time in The Consumerist, the Consumer Reports blogsite.  It's most blatantly obvious in breakfast cereals; whereas as little as 12 years ago, a box of cereal lasted a week, nowadays they are barely more then snack-sized, and MORE expensive then they used to be.

    Trader Joes was a lifesaver.  They refused to downsize their cereal to that extent.  But it's not just cereal; it's most everything.
