    Jim Messina's first public interview after the election was at a Politico breakfast and I found it fascinating.  I watched the video and read the summary of it several times.  There were a number of reasons that he stated as to why the President's campaign dominated this election, but it eventually boiled down to this one statement he made:

    ...Messina insisted that none of that would have mattered without a compelling message and messenger.

    “The messenger matters, and we had a better messenger,” Messina said.

    Ironically, the Republican candidate that Messina feared the most of Jon Huntsman whom Messina has long respected.  That goes to show just how far out of the mainstream that the Republican Party has gone.
