  •  ...thank you!...Or I should say, your son... (10+ / 0-)

...should thank you.  Please share my story away...smileycreek's Wordpress HPV throat cancer site (free...so it isn't very robust)...has been helpful.  She has now been contacted by HuffPo (a Berkeley couple...husband when through it just a tad after me...he was very athletic, lost 45 pounds...feeding tube...yada, yada).

She's also been contacted by a guy in Scotland too who has a web site devoted to this.

So, looks like some working together will happen.  The women in Berkeley will likely have the overall best site because she is going to run it as a non-profit 501-C.  She can get donations from folks that are tax deductible for them.

The only thing I kinda don't like about this situation is I truly believe it will be a revenue stream for her and her husband.  They are giving a prize to the person who donates the most (in what timeline I don't know)...one week free at their second home in Lake Tahoe (great prize for skiers and/or gamblers).

So much new info comes in.  Now they gotten rid of that silly belief they were saying just a few months ago about how 90% of people who acquire the virus "wash it out after two years."  TOTAL RUBBISH.

Since they actually started doing some real and good research, they've discovered that over 80% of all middle-aged men have the virus...and have been carrying it for around 30 years.

So much of the stuff still on the internet is totally wrong information.  Fortunately, real research is happening.  They are trying all manner of different ways to treat this...though radiation will still be the #1 treatment.

In the UK they started using lazer surgery instead of any radiation or chemo.  They unfortunately have one bad side affect = death by bleeding out from the carotid artery being broached from inside the throat.  A few guys went home after this lazer surgery and died real fast like.

So, I wouldn't go for that.

I also would NOT have a surgery like I did, which was to remove the lymph nodes involved and check everything out inside there.  It left me with three muscles that now dead as door nails = trapezius, supraspinatus and rhomboids on my right side.

Surgery ISN'T part of the standard treatment...Radiation (since they give you the most for anything) is the treatment and will get rid of any of it anywhere.

Chemo is given as an adjunct to the radiation to "soften it up" so the radiation is more effective.

Ignorance is bliss only for the ignorant. The rest of us must suffer the consequences.
