    First, they would have required a reliable enough powerplant with enough thrust. I doubt the coal powered ramjet would have been capable of such a feat. Hell, in the late 80's when I was studying Aero, Allison Engines in Indianapolis was still trying to develop a coal powered jet and having all kinds of problems with degradation of the components.

    Also, just like that other Lippisch legacy delta, the XF-92, the drag rise at Mach unity would most likely have been too high as Whitcomb still hadn't figured out the area rule yet.

    Overall, though, a nice diary.
