It's tough enough for incoming new Senator to get on the Banking Committee in his or her first year.

Senate Finance and Appropriations are the toughest for a new Senator to get on, because they both involve dispensing money.

The most junior Dem now on Senate Finance is Ben Cardin, who got his slot after 4 years in the Senate, and a number of years in the House.

Warren will be the most junior member of the Democratic Caucus, since the other new Senators (Baldwin, Hirono,  Donnally, Heinrichs, Murphy, Heitkamp) were elected officials previously, Heitkamp as ND Attorney General and the others members of the House of Representatives.

      ...since they're former governors.

      ... rigorously automatic?

I'm not naive about fusty enduring Senate traditions (although why some are enduring puzzles me, for they have about as much principle beneath them as rigorous employment seniority in the face of demonstrated ability). Warren has prominence and credibility outside her home state way beyond most of the others.

That said, I get that what Is, IS!

I'll be fascinated to see which luminaries the Senate leadership puts into the available Finance Committee slots.

2014 IS COMING. Build up the Senate. Win back the House : 17 seats. Plus!
