house if they were a little more boyish.  Even though we're pretty uncaring about colors, the pink oven was more than my pink shirt wearing son would even take, and he likes to cook.

I gravitated closely to my mother growing up and became a decent cook.  Women like it, for a lot of reasons.

Learn to cook, young man, I can assure you it will take you places....

right to the real thing. We didn't let them use it by themselves, not at first. But now my son and daughter both cook, bake, etc. Everyone in our house can cook.

To me progress is not so much a goal as it is a process and I believe it will not follow a straight course. Remember, the drops of water that form the river may not take the shortest path but they will still reach the ocean.

I (his father) cook dinner every night, while he watches (only 17 months, not too much hands-on yet).   My mother always encouraged me to cook and experiment.  One of my favorite memories is of when, at the age of 8 or 9, I woke up early on a Sunday and decided to treat my still-sleeping parents to ginger snaps.  A lot of ginger snaps.  I made a huge, at least quadruple, batch.  The kitchen was covered with cooling ginger snaps.  I think they were a bit dismayed that I had used the oven so much without them, but were consoled by 1) my continuing good health and 2) warm ginger snaps for breakfast.

If they take the advice, they have the potential of increasing sales by 100%.

    •  Seems to me the colors are relatively new (0+ / 0-)

When my sister had one - which I also used, but then again I am gay - I could have sworn it was beige, not purple or pink. Of course, this was during the Ford administration, so I could be mistaken.

    •  Kids cooking is great news in over-processed food (0+ / 0-)

world of today. I know Easy-Bake is hardly the epitome of do-it-yourself cooking from scratch but you have to start somewhere. Feeling comfortable with kitchen mechanics - recipes, tools, ingredients, timing - might get future generations off the obesity cliff we're heading for.

As I mentioned in my post below, they make a grey one.
