What did Costas risk?  A dressing down?  Is this what passes for courage these days?

... if he had spoken out about the harm football causes to participants and society. But I guess it's not just blog posters who cherry pick.

Or not, it's merely a suggestion...

chose this topic (and not yours) does not make him less courageous. This topic was germane to both the time and place of his speech.

I wasn't aware that I had a different topic. Maybe I'm just too cynical, but it seems like maybe blaming the availability of guns for causing this is possibly an attempt to deflect criticism of the NFL's ongoing lack of interest in addressing the well documented domestic violence problems that many of its players struggle with.

That would seem somewhat less about courage and more about spinning a story in the best interests of the NFL and the network that employs Bob. Not sure that requires any courage at all, maybe just a substantial paycheck.

If only we had kept guns away from Jovan, and knives from Ray, and dogs from Michael, and women from Ben, all would be good with the world, and we can keep making millionaire heroes out of guys whose out of work behavior would make them unemployable in most any other occupation.

Simple, huh? Why didn't someone think of it before Bob?

that the internal politics at NBC/GE are not conducive to either free thinking/speaking or liberal activism. See: Keith Olbermann. (And yes, I know Olbermann's tough to work with.)
