    Looking at homicide rates from the early 1980's to today in both California and Texas show an almost identical set of rates, and matching decline in per capita statistics.

    New York and Texas, very similar.

    It is almost like state gun laws aren't the reason for the decline and something else was going on in large cities in the 80's and early 90's that mostly stopped in the mid to late 90's that was causing an unusual number of homicides in large urban population centers.

    Gosh, what could it have been? I'm sure if we put our heads together we can figure it out.
