  •  Pesticides and herbicides are also linked to (11+ / 0-)

food allergies and weight gain, among many other things.

The chemicals are found around the world due to agricultural runoff into rivers and then the oceans.  We're literally all soaking in a soup of chemicals that no one has really studied for long term effects.

    •  Re pesticide testing (1+ / 0-)

Pesticides registered for use in the US have in fact been studied very carefully for potential short and long term effects.  There are also regularly scheduled re-registrations in which data call ins may be issued, if the data base is considered incomplete or to replace studies, for instance if new and better methodology is available.

      •  And who controls the tests and the testers? (2+ / 0-)

who fudges results or selectively suppresses findings that someone does not like? Corporate influence has wormed its way into many government agencies and while results are still useful and "weed out" obviously dangerous compounds and practices...  they not always totally honest and do end up "helping" corporations but green lighting things that are more in the grey areas... with controversial findings... and not just studies by extreme green bad science... but more reputable solid ones. Findings that are inconvenient can get ignored... or standards can be relaxed or regulations and laws can be neutralized, gutted or changed.

      •  We don't require the chemical companies (0+ / 0-)

to prove that these chemicals will not cause significant harm.

Testing is a joke. Only after injury and illness is caused, or other environmental damage, and only after law suits and public comment periods, and massively expensive ad wars, is anything even remotely addressed about the harm to people, or the environment. And even then that is no guarantee.

Case in point: The Science is out there that irrefutably proves that CCD is caused by NeoNicotinoids because in sublethal doses it suppresses the immune system of bees, when it doesn't kill them outright.

        Meanwhile, didley squat happens.

The Science is out there that irrefutably proves that endocrine disruptors like atrazine cause problems and deformaties and intersex characteristics in our amphibians, which are globally in decline. Nothing happens.

That Organophosphates like Malathion exposure causes conditions like Parkinsons in Humans-----Nothing happens.

And it goes on and on and on.

    •  Look at all the rice that has arsenic in it - most (5+ / 0-)

of it raised in the USA.

i was at the grocery store recently and complaining to a vidalia onion farmer about GMOs and he told me that the first GMO was WHEAT.  I have a husband that has to be gluten free because gluten (from wheat, malt) inflames his arthritis.  I know a lot of people who have ciliac disease (all related to gluten).  Gluten also has a relationship with some auto-imune diseases.

chemicals our bodies were designed to use to function. Yeah they studied all that scientifically... wonder why all diseases caused by chemical interactions between natural body chemicals like hormones or cholesterol or ...Yeah sure to come are the invested to tell us that everything is dandy and doesn't need to be questiones unless you are unscientific or even believe in fairies...
