  •  Microsoft's monopoly has been a drain (0+ / 0-)

on the world economy for 25 years now. They didn't get where they are by producing the best products, but by happenstance, marketing, consumer naivete, and anti-competitive practices.

Every school district, non-profit, local, state, and federal gov't agency has to pay Bill Gates just to be able to do business. That's not how we get the best products at the best prices.

It never should have been allowed to happen but PCs, like GMOs, were new tech and consumers, regulators, and legislators were either caught off guard or in the profit steam.

Bill Gates is not a good example, unless you admire greed and anti-competitive practices.

Reaganomics noun pl: belief that unregulated capitalism can produce unlimited goods for unlimited people on a planet with finite resources and we the people can increase revenue by decreasing revenue.

"Vendor lock-in" and "software monoculture" are phrases used in the IT world but the same concepts apply to Monsanto.

What Monsanto and Microsoft offer are dependence on Microsoft and Monsanto. And they use publicly funded resources (the court system and in the case of Microsoft the U.S. Marshals Service) to enforce their monopolies.

Bill Gates is a very good example of why I compared Microsoft and Monsanto:

Bill Gates is not a good example
In any event, my initial comment sure flushed a bunch of Monsanto/Microsoft apologists (no, not you) out of the proverbial woodwork - who'd have thunk that they'd have such a following here?!
