The extreme left and right agree on certain things a lot more often than you'd expect. Take single-sex education, for example: the radical left (i.e. the "womyn with a Y" crowd) and the extreme right (the folks who think there's a worldwide conspiracy to frame as many innocent men for rape as possible) both tend to be very supportive of it, in large part because both ideologies boil down to little more than dislike of the other gender.*

Now, I don't pretend to understand why Angela Davis interpreted Sanger's comments the way she did (and I don't think I want to know what Dinesh D'Souza might have been thinking, in this case or any other), but that they both condemn her means nothing beyond the cases they were trying to make in their respective writings. That said, we DO know that the right has never had any qualms about going through all sorts of logical acrobatics to establish that we on the left are the real racists. So it isn't even worth considering whether D'Souza's claim holds any water whatsoever. One can assume it doesn't, given his track record. Angela Davis does give me some more pause, but from the context here it sounds like the topic at hand was eugenics. Eugenics is one of those ideas that have been thoroughly discredited and tossed on the scrap heap of history, yet there was a time when otherwise-reasonable people supported it. While unfortunate, that doesn't mean those people were necessarily racists.

By my reading, the offending quote just means Sanger was aware of the possibility that the Karl Roves of her day might misrepresent her for political gain. And the very existence of this diary proves she was right about that.

*Allow me to make it clear here that I am NOT saying all supporters of single-sex education hate the other sex. Just that the other way around is often the case.

Certaines personnes disent qu'il y a une femme à blâmer, Mais je sais que c'est ma faute sacrément.
