(where we lived at the time) were being deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan and i covered those deployment ceremonies and interviewed soldiers both before they left and after they came home.   i can't begin to tell you (and you already know anyway) how devastating those deployments were/are to the families.

my god, the incentives to join were in the tens of thousands of dollars, HUGE money for a kid just out of high school with no job prospects.

yeah, i get upset just typing about it.   {{{slatsg}}}  for what it is worth.    those kids need us to never forget them.

the day this country, as a whole, admits what they allowed done in their name is the day i'll breath a little easier.  we are all culpable (imo).

Enlisting is the the plots kids college scholarship.

If he can get through his obligation, he might be able to go to college.

You mention in your other comment that your efforts make a long story. They might make a good diary. I realize that we are often preaching to the choir around here, but sometimes simply reading a positive comment or diary can lift the spirit.

      Thanks once again.

of those population-decreasing rural communities that hold so little hope.     that aspect of that war, the carrot-for-cannon-fodder, was so very callus.  made me rethink the draft and i never thought that would happen.

to send young folks into harms way.

if a habitat is flooded, the improvement for target fishes increases by an infinite percentage...because a habitat suitability index that is even a tiny fraction of 1 is still infinitely higher than zero, which is the suitability of dry land to fishes.
