Truth is, I have no idea what Kate's life was like. I didn't even know Kate existed until Monday.

What I do know is that people in the media were making fun of her going to a hospital for "morning sickness." And I know that her privileged position in life has not made HG any less serious. In her favor, it does mean that she will get good medical care and that will help ease the symptoms, but she is still going to suffer through this pregnancy.

more like fawning over the fact that Royal couple is having a baby. NBC even sent a Special envoy there.

was early on (e.g., from what I heard, some of the hosts on The View were laughing about her going to the hospital). Once news got out that she wasn't there for the normal morning sickness the laughing was replaced by the more typical ignorant, "who needs facts?" kind of reporting -- e.g., calling HG "severe morning sickness." The fact that the news media is still calling HG "severe morning sickness" and has apparently moved on to more entertaining things like blathering on about the possibility of twins and such is, imho, just more evidence that they don't understand how serious HG is. It would also indicate that they don't think their audience is interested in taking it very seriously, either.

For what it's worth, I don't ever watch network news or "morning shows" and on a scale of 1-to-10 I'd rate my interest in celebrity type news at about -5. I only caught wind of this story because people I know who've had their lives turned upside down by HG started talking about it.

He did a gag with pretending to interview Princess Kate via telephone, with the person on the other end of the line making barfing sounds.

      •  being a princess makes this harder (0+ / 0-)

Her celebrity status makes this situation even harder than it would be otherwise.  She certainly can't get an abortion.  Even if he has a miscarriage she will be expected to make additional attempts to produce an heir to her husband's grandmother's throne.  She will also be under huge pressure to be out and about and play the role of the beautiful young princess.

The only upside to being a princess is that she will be guaranteed the best possible medical care--- but in her case she happens to be British, and everyone in Britain can get good medical care.
