  •  Why would they want to enslave us? (2+ / 0-)

They can just build more and more devices. Less effort than enslaving humans. And what would they want with our wet dirtball anyway? It's down at the bottom of a gravity well, which makes it a bother to get on and off the planet. And the things that we like - air, water and soil - aren't worth much to a robot. They could live quite comfortably without them.

It's sort of like the sci-fi movies where the bug-eyed monster wants to take our women. It seems obvious to us that bug-eyed monsters would want human women, but really, the bug-eyed monster would prefer another bug-eyed monster. Similarly, our world seems ideal, but it would be a mistake think that the robots would also find it idea.

in space. Why limit yourself if you can exist pretty much anywhere in the universe?

Just want to pipe up and say that I've been hearing about AI for decades.

My personal opinion is that there is a big difference between 'intelligence' and consciousness. We may get very, very smart machines. Consciousness, nah, I don't think so. MHO.

      •  Well, if they're playing the long game (0+ / 0-)

they might wipe us out just in case we end up being a competitor in the long term.  Honestly, if they didn't wipe us out I think that might say something about our long term prospects.

The revolution will not be televised. But it will be blogged, a lot. Probably more so than is necessary.

of the universe. Earth in relation to the universe might be a bit like one atom in relation to the Earth.

This universe has, for all intents and purposes, infinite resources or those who are not limited to this tiny, insignificant pebble.

There would simply be nothing to fear. No scarcity in the present or future. Unless you count the end of the Universe. And that ain't happening for a while. MHO.

          •  Exponential growth is an amazing thing (0+ / 0-)

And while the universe may be vast given that we would both have the same starting point there would be competition.
