  •  Could Susan Collins face a primary challenge (9+ / 0-)

from the right? Maybe the Maine tea party folks will do us a favor and nominate an unelectable wing nut.

      •  Also Lamar Alexander & Saxby Chambliss (4+ / 0-)

They're also "squishy moderate" (at least compared to the GOPs current incarnation of fire-breathers)

        •  Chambliss vs. Tea Party speculation in GA. (1+ / 0-)

I'm starting to read speculation about who from the even-farther-right will run against Chambliss. Names bandied about:

          * Karen Handel--former GOP gov candidate; former Fulton County CEO; former Komen Breast Cancer honcho ousted for being public embarrassment.

          * Chip Rogers--former GOP state legislative leader; recently made national news for hosting, at the GA capital building, a seminar for GOP legislators on the Obama/UN Agenda 21 mind-control threat. (Not making that up.)

          * Herman Cain. Yes, really.

Chambliss will surely win against any Dem. So I'm hoping for huge Tea Party asshole to take down Chambliss. (I think. Gotta be careful what we wish for.)

If he doesn't run, the odds go down that Georgia will end up a laughingstock. (Again.)

Eric the Red (per Salon) isn't running either (think of the family!), and Allen West is out as he has said he's not (per Huffpo) interested in returning to GA.

Thanks! So it appears some of the more outrageous candidates are sitting it out. But the GOP has a deep bench of outrageous here in GA. The second string is warming up...

    •  It's entirely possible (2+ / 0-)

I'll start looking at individual races soon.

    •  I can't stand her. (3+ / 0-)

At least with the others, they are repugs through and through.  Collins acts like a holier then thou "moderate" then backs repug obstruction when she has a chance to really BE a moderate.

I hope for two things:  A tea-bagger primary challenger and a solid Dem for the general election!

    •  More likely (1+ / 0-)

She could go the way of Snowe, her mentor, and leave.

If I were a Senate Democrat, I'd be mounting a full court press on both Collins and Lisa Murkowski to switch parties.  They don't belong with the GOP. I'd offer them senior committee status, maybe the chair Collins at least would occupy ifshe was part of the Reality Party.  Maine's election results--overwhelmingly Democratic--ought to be giving her pause, and Alaska is more close than most people think, and would be very competitive if national Democrats actually took the trouble to campaign there.

The Obama administration must recruit top tier Democrats to run in all GOP-held Senate seats, giving them positions in the administration as a consolation prize if they lose.  That's how it's done.

Because if we hold the majority in 2014, we will SURELY get to 60 in 2016.
