    they won't believe Obama was born in Hawaii, for instance, or that he lowered their taxes in 2009.
    But I will grant you that they will gladly believe all sorts of demonstrably false things if those things elevate them personally on an emotional level. They'll believe even more ludicrous things if there is a denigration of others embedded in the ludicrousness.

      in the case of Obama's birth certificate and that their taxes were lowered not raised was because the GOP filled their empty little heads with so much bullshit it occasionally spews from their mouths.

        reaffirming, larded up with confirmation bias, fits in with existing prejudices...
        Bummer that roughly a quarter of the population of "the greatest nation ever everever" is so fond of bullshit they eat it unquestioningly. And a stark reminder that whatever we do, there will be a ceiling of effectiveness at about 75%.
