of latent racism for good measure.

Conservatives seem to believe that the rich will work harder if we give them more, and the poor will work harder if we give them less. E.J. Dionne

still on the books in the '50's & 60's in upscale Northern Kentucky areas (Fort Thomas - outside of Newport, KY).  When I heard about this - I was astonished, even as an aware child.  Truth is, there were almost no Blacks living in Northern Kentucky in those years.  Many Blacks lived across the river in Cincinnati - de facto segregation.  Though I never learned racism as my father was a Steelworker & my mother was a Roosevelt Liberal - the union was strong and my father had co-workers and friends who were black.  We also had a lesbian couple - severe stereotypes around 1959.  Lovely and sweet women.

I do have good memories - but my parents both died in 1969, seven days apart.  It tore my family apart forever.  That and the Vietnam war.  Looking back, those were very troubling times in my life - juxtaposed with joy and excitement at seeing the wider world as a young Airman.
